Boating

Helpful information if you are planning on bringing or renting a boat or jetski during your stay

Over the years we've received many questions from guests about boats and jetskis.   This page will help to answer any questions you may have and assist you in making your plans and enjoying your stay.

Can we bring our boat(s) and/or Jetski(s)?
Yes.  There is plenty of parking behind the house for multiple boats and Jetskis.  Guests have parked as many as three (3) boats in the past.  Please note that if you have multiple boats you may need to back down the driveway.

Is there are public area to launch our boat or Jetski?
Yes.  The neighborhood has a private boat launch area for homeowners and guests.  The launch area is located within minutes from the rental (by foot or vehicle).  You are free to use this any time during your stay.  Please note that guests are not allowed to dock their boats at slips in the private boat dock as the slips are reserved for homeowners.

Can we park our boat and/or Jetski at your boathouse?
Yes.  But with conditions.  The boat house only holds one boat which is used by the homeowners.   You can dock your boat behind the boat house by tying up to the dock cleats.  Please note that other homeowners use this channel to get access to the Lake.  As such, your boat must not obstruct other home / boat owners.  You can also park your Jetski in the Jetski dock which typically has 1-2 spaces available.

How deep is the water?
Typically, the depth of the water, and channel behind the boat house is 4-6 feet.  This is dependent on the level of the water in the Lake and sometimes can go below 4 feet if a heavy drought season.  Please check with the hosts for actual depth.

How do we get to deeper waters and the rest of Lake Anna by boat from the boat house?
Once you get past the no wake zone the depth of the water increases significantly.  The below image shows you the depth of water areas and recommended paths (in yellow).

Is there a public area to launch my boat or jetski?
Yes.  In the image above there is a private area for homeowners and guests to launch their boat or jetski.  It is located within a 3 minute walk from the property and also accessible by car.

Do you provide life-jackets and/or other boating equipment?
Yes.  There are 10 life-jackets in the boat house ranging in sizes from child to adult.  In addition, there is also various floats, noodles, and rafts as well as an electric inflation pump.

Are there places to rent boats or Jetskis at Lake Anna?
Yes.  There are several places to rent boats or Jetskis.  We have never rented either but have heard great reviews from the following places:

If we bring our boat or jetski, or rent one, where should we go or what should we do on the Lake?
This is always a fun question and we can only provide our recommendations.  If you fish you can drop your line anywhere on the Lake, including right off our dock.  Guests have caught enormous bass, catfish, and snakehead from our shore, dock, or in the channel and northern streams that feed the Lake.  These streams are only accessible by kayaks or fishing boats with trolling motors.  For everything else, here are our suggestions, tips, and recommendations:

Swimming & Relaxing on the Lake
There are hundreds of places to swim and relax on the Lake.  That said, please be smart about where you stop / anchor.  Lake Anna is a busy lake and like roads and interstate traffic, boat activity, especially on the weekend, can be stressful.   There are major "lanes" where boats are travelling north and south at high speeds.  The best swimming areas are located in the "fingers" of the Lake, or the coves off the interstate / major lanes.  In these coves you will find areas where you can drop your boat anchor or get close to the shoreline to tie up your boat.   Below (black circles) are a few of our favorite spots to drop anchor, swim, and relax.
